Nestled in the foothills of the Pyrénées Orientales, near the medieval village of Castelnou, lies Domaine Madrona, a grorgeous13th-century Catalonian farmhouse. Set within 100 hectares of Mediterranean forest, where hot, dry summers and mild winters nurture holm oaks, cork oaks, and indigenous pines. The landscape, rich in biodiversity, has remained largely unchanged for many centuries, bearing witness to Moorish conquests, Vandal and Gothic migrations, and the Cathar movement. It is the Cathars with whom Madrona is most closely linked. The renovation combined traditional techniques, thoughtful design, and modern architectural expertise.
Each bedroom has been individually designed with respect for natural materials and furnished in an eclectic and fascinating style.
The main dining/gathering area enjoys a large stocked bar and kitchen. There is also a 'professional' kitchen for visiting chefs.
The salon is 90m² and a booklover's dream - whole walls are covered with Penguin Classics. You'll never run out of reading materials. The salon opens out onto an extensive terrace ideal for yoga or pilates sessions whilst enjoying the views across the countryside.
The swimming pool (5m by 12m) at Domaine Madrona, tiled in the colours of river stones, is surrounded by a large and elegant terrace. Deck chairs and lunch tables, shaded by pergolas, are waiting for you to enjoy the sun. Near the pool you will find a fully-equipped bar and kitchen. The beautiful Mediterranean gardens, surroundings and pool are lovingly taken care of.
